Agreed...a band of brothers.

Do we have a shot of Rick and his car to post?

So lately I've been reliving my glorious return to SCCA. It was a pathetically embarrassing season. Out of 6 race starts I saw only one checkered flag, had to be towed in 5 times, never passed another F Production racer, but was passed numerous times, and barely equalled my vintage racing lap times on tracks I know well.

I keep looking for a little something positive to take from it all and low and behold it arrived today. Imagine my surprise when I opened the mail and found this:

I think this must be a "participation" trophy, but maybe in the new SCCA you get points for how well you handle the flat tow. Or perhaps for how quickly you enter an event.

What's really sad about this is that I have several of these from my previous life with the SCCA. None say first, but a couple say 2nd and I think there's a third somewhere. But with each of those divisional trophies is a pretty intense story, and I probably won four or five races during those seasons and still could only finish second or third.

Hopefully this one is a mistake - a computer glitch or something. But if it's for real, it tells a pretty sad story.

Yes, it does feel like a T-ball, you showed up for all the games , trophy and I can sympathize, having had an embarrassing year myself. But a new year and Sonoma awaits!

So Dave, would you say that represents "the wonderful nothingness of SCCA racing" smile

Did you really remember that after all these years? smile

I have to admit that for me it's a true statement, and certainly my performance added to the truth of it. I guess it's a matter of depth, and for many of the older classes there isn't the depth that was once there - sound like a familiar problem?

But if you look at Spec Miata and Spec Racer Ford, the fields are huge. I've been in the middle of a Spec Miata race and I've nothing but respect and praise for those competitors I was around, but... the class has absolutely no charm for me. I assume the front of the SRF race is also filled with great competitors but once again, I don't get it.

I guess this is the definition of a dinosaur frown

But I'll wager that to many of them, and especially the spectators, your cars' presence provides a great deal of charm ! And has them wishing that more "dinosaurs" were among them.

Of course I remember that quote, it was spot on, I have used it many times smile I think for a lot of us and the cars we race, the great battles are far and few between, maybe that why we remember the good races so vividly. Now for SM, and SRF, that can be every race, but I don't like the idea the chances of wiping out my car is greatly increased, now let someone else pay for that, and hey let's let the bodywork fly smile
